![]() Prof Tao’s mathematical abilities emerged at a very young age, with his parents observing his interest in numbers and ability to count and read by the age of two. He has been the author or co-author of over 350 research papers and 18 books, and continues to attract top students from all over the world, eager to study with him at UCLA. In 2006, he was awarded the Fields Medal – regarded as the Nobel Prize of mathematics – for his contributions to partial differential equations, combinatorics, harmonic analysis and additive number theory. In 1996, at the age of just 20, Prof Tao completed his PhD in Mathematics at Princeton University, and has been a Professor at the University of California Los Angeles ever since. A child prodigy who grew up in the hills of Adelaide, Prof Tao is regarded as the Mozart of Maths, recognised globally for his natural ability to solve enormously complicated problems across a broad range of mathematical fields. Therefore, it is indeed a proud moment for Pakistan that Muhammad Atif Zaheer, a local math prodigy, has been recognized by one of the world’s math legends, Terrence Tao.Professor Terence Tao is a humble achiever who happens to be one of the greatest mathematicians in the world. One of Tao’s most significant contributions to mathematics is his work in number theory, which has led to new insights and breakthroughs in the study of prime numbers and other fundamental concepts. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to mathematics, including the Fields Medal in 2006, the Salem Prize in 2000, and the Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics in 2015. ![]() Terence Tao is a prominent mathematician known for his contributions to many areas of mathematics, including number theory, partial differential equations, harmonic analysis, and more. The name was mentioned in the preface of the book “Analysis I and II” by Terence Tao, a professor of mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Meet Atif, a Pakistan MS Mathematics students who was mentioned by ‘the world’s best mathematician’ in his book. Nowadays, it’s said that to solve a big problem, you need to get Terence Tao interested in it,” Atif Zaheer said while explaining the significance of Terence Tao’s work. “There is this trend in mathematics nowadays, that if you’re interested in solving a really difficult math problem, you need to get somehow a leading mathematician who works in that area to take an interest in it. ![]() Read more: Breaking barriers: Naila Kiani becomes first Pakistani woman to climb world’s 10th highest peak Due to his contributions, Muhammad Atif Zaheer’s name was also mentioned in the preface of the book along with other international math experts.
